This is the best routine for your hair type
Everyone knows that a good shampoo is important, but truly healthy hair requires just a little more attention. It starts with a routine that suits your hair type. What works for fine hair is completely different from what curls need. Below you’ll read how to build your care routine smartly in five steps, with tips for each hair type.
Why a good hair routine is important
Caring for your hair starts with understanding what your hair needs. Fine hair benefits from volume and lightness, while thick hair needs hydration and control. With the right products and techniques, you’ll not only give your hair more shine, but also extend the life of your colour and prevent breakage or hair loss. In short: investing in a good hair routine is investing in healthy hair.
Step 1: cleansing
A good routine starts with the basics: cleansing your hair and scalp. Choose a shampoo that suits your scalp and hair type. If you want to tackle it thoroughly right away, our hair stylists can tell you exactly which routine and products fit your needs and hair type after a short analysis. Book an appointment in our salon — we’re happy to help. Here are some tips to get started on your ideal routine:
Fine hair
Fine hair tends to go limp and lifeless quickly. Give your locks volume with a volumising shampoo. Use products with proteins like keratin to care for your hair without weighing it down. Avoid shampoos with silicones, parabens or too-rich products, as these will weigh your hair down. Tip: wash fine hair every other day.

Curls or waves
Curls often need extra hydration and care, as they tend to be drier. Choose a moisturising or sulphate-free shampoo with nourishing ingredients like shea butter or rich oils. Wash your hair once or twice a week to keep it clean without stripping away natural oils.
Thick or coarse hair
Thick or coarse hair often feels dry and can lack shine and suppleness. Go for a moisturising shampoo rich in caring ingredients like shea butter, argan oil or coconut oil. These nourish your hair deeply and make it easier to detangle and less frizzy. Tip: wash thick hair two to three times a week and massage your shampoo in well with your fingertips for an extra boost in scalp circulation.
Step 2: conditioner and care
A good conditioner and post-shampoo care are not a luxury but a must. Why? Shampoo cleans your hair and scalp and opens the cuticles. Conditioner closes the cuticles again, leaving your hair smooth, protected and easier to detangle. Without conditioner or care, your hair remains vulnerable to damage, tangles and moisture loss.
Fine hair
Use a light or spray conditioner and apply it only to the lengths and ends. This way, you avoid your hair going flat, while still giving it the care it needs.
Curls and waves
Curls love moisture, so give them extra love with a rich and nourishing conditioner. Let it sit for a few minutes so your hair has time to absorb all the nutrients. Focus mainly on the lengths, where curls tend to dry out faster. Tip: comb the conditioner through with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb in the shower to detangle your hair without disturbing your curl pattern.
Thick or coarse hair
Thick and coarse hair requires intensive care. Use a nourishing conditioner after every wash and treat your hair to a restorative mask once a week to keep it supple. Choose ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil that soften the hair without making it heavy or greasy.
Step 3: don’t forget your scalp
Your scalp is the foundation of healthy hair but is often overlooked. That’s why it’s important to care for it well. Schedule a Scalp Detox Treatment once or twice a month or use a gentle scrub to remove built-up residue and sebum. Regularly massage your scalp or enjoy an Intense Treatment with high-quality products that nourish both hair and scalp. This stimulates circulation, keeping your hair strong from root to tip. Tip: sleep on a satin pillowcase to reduce friction and breakage.

Step 4: protect your hair and prevent damage
Whether you’re blow-drying, styling or enjoying the sun: heat protection is a must for every hair type. Always use a heat protector with a UV filter (hello summer) when using styling tools, and add a hair oil to your routine for extra shine and protection against dryness.
Step 5: nourish your hair from the inside out
Beautiful hair starts from within, so don’t forget that your nutrition is just as important as your hair products. Make sure you get enough protein, which is the building block for strong hair. Think eggs, nuts and legumes. Minerals like iron and zinc and vitamins such as biotin also give your hair the boost it needs to grow healthy and strong. And don’t forget to drink plenty of water — hydration is the key to shiny, resilient hair.
