The favorite Rotterdam hotspots of KURO stylists
A visit to KURO is never just about hair. Our salon is located right in the heart of Rotterdam, in an area where great coffee, inspiring fashion, good food and creative energy naturally come together. That is exactly what makes this part of the city feel so alive. Step outside the salon and you are immediately surrounded by places that make Rotterdam feel stylish, vibrant and full of character.
That is also why our stylists each have their own favorite local spots nearby. Some places are perfect for a quiet breakfast before a fully booked salon day. Others are made for vintage treasure hunting, a comforting coffee break or a feel-good lunch while watching the city move around you. Together, these places say a lot about the KURO neighborhood and about why this location suits the salon so well.
So if you are coming to KURO for a colour appointment, a cut or a styling session, consider giving yourself a little more time. These are the favorite hotspots of our stylists and the places that make this part of Rotterdam feel even more like the buzzing heart of the city.
Wendy’s favorites: Nen Xavier and SUE
Wendy is drawn to places with personality, and you can tell from her picks. One of her favorite local hotspots is Nen Xavier’s shop, a place known for its strong sense of style and its eye for vintage-inspired fashion. According to Wendy, it is not just about the clothes themselves, but also about the advice you get there. It is one of those places where the people working there really understand how to match an outfit to your vibe.
That makes it feel very Rotterdam in the best possible way. Creative, personal and a little bit unexpected. Not too polished, not too predictable, just full of character. It is exactly the kind of place you walk into for a browse and leave feeling inspired.
For something sweet afterwards, Wendy loves SUE. If you are craving a treat but do not want the heavy sugar hit, this is her go-to stop. She describes their sweets as amazing, and that says enough. It is a spot that fits perfectly with a KURO day out: a little indulgent, a little mindful and very easy to love.
Nen Xavier, Pannekoekstraat 62A, Rotterdam.
SUE, Karel Doormanstraat 372–374, Rotterdam.
Nancy’s favorite: Vlaamsch Broodhuys
For Nancy, a good KURO day often starts with the smell of freshly baked bread. Her favorite stop is Vlaamsch Broodhuys, right next door to the salon. Sometimes she sits down for a simple breakfast before the day begins. Other times she grabs a fresh sourdough sandwich to go. Either way, it always puts her in a good mood before she starts at the salon.
What makes it even more personal is that Nancy is now almost known there for her order: the Scone Speciaal. It is her ultimate favorite.
There is something very comforting about a place like this. Reliable, relaxed and full of little pleasures. In a lively part of the city like this, it is nice to have a spot that feels almost like a ritual.
Vlaamsch Broodhuys, Meent 8A, Rotterdam.
Gary’s favorite: Think Twice
Gary’s pick makes perfect sense if you know his eye for style. His KURO hotspot is Think Twice on the Pannekoekstraat, a vintage clothing store where, according to him, you can find excellent clothes and incredible deals. And not just good deals, but the kind that make vintage shopping genuinely exciting. He especially loves the moments when prices drop so low that anything in the store can be just one euro.
That playful, ever-changing feeling is exactly what makes the place so appealing. You never quite know what you are going to find, and that is part of the thrill.
Think Twice also taps into something that makes this area of Rotterdam so special. There is always movement, always inspiration and always something slightly unexpected around the corner.
Think Twice, Pannekoekstraat 54, Rotterdam.
Kim’s favorite: Served
Kim does not hesitate when asked about her favorite spot. For her, it is Served. This is her coffee place, and her vanilla latte is the order. In her words, it is honestly the best coffee. And if you ask her for a bonus recommendation, she will probably mention the banana bread too because she absolutely loves it.
What makes Served stand out for Kim is the full experience. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, the staff are always friendly and it is the kind of place that instantly lifts your mood. It is easy to see why this would become a regular stop.
That warmth and ease are also part of what gives this neighborhood its charm. It feels stylish without trying too hard.
Served, Meent 10-12-14, Rotterdam.
Lola’s favorite: Neighborhood
Lola’s favorite pause spot is Neighborhood, her go-to place for a good coffee during the day. What she loves most is the homely, relaxed atmosphere and the genuinely friendly staff. It is one of those places where you can catch your breath for a moment without stepping out of the energy of the city.
What also makes this part of Rotterdam feel so special is that the KURO experience does not stop at hair. Right inside the salon, you will also find KURO Nails, the shop-in-shop concept with Japanese nail artist Manammy. Originally from Japan, she ran her own successful salon in Osaka for 11 years before bringing her precision, creativity and distinctive aesthetic to KURO in Rotterdam. Her story and style add another layer to the salon, making KURO feel even more like a creative beauty destination under one roof.
Neighborhood, Herenplaats 1, Rotterdam.

Zoe’s favorite: Spirit Rotterdam
For Zoe, Spirit Rotterdam is a lovely place to eat. She likes it for its tasty vegetarian canteen-style food and for the simple pleasure of sitting by the window and watching the world go by. That image says everything. Good food, a comfortable seat and the city unfolding right in front of you.
It is a reminder that part of the KURO experience is not only what happens in the salon, but also everything around it. This area invites you to slow down a little, look around and make a full moment out of your time in the city.
Spirit fits that beautifully. It is accessible, flavorful and easygoing, which makes it a great stop during a KURO day.
Spirit Rotterdam, Mariniersweg 9, Rotterdam.
