A shoot with Giel Schenkels: an ode to versatility
Sometimes someone walks in and you immediately know: this is going to be special. Giel Schenkels, model at Solid Model Management, had just been scouted when he sat down in KURO’s Bianca’s chair. A fresh energy, a head full of curls going in every direction, and a face you won’t forget. Bianca shaped his hair in a way that brought out his features better in the photos used by his agency to present him to brands.
“The first thing I wanted to do was shape his hair so that his face would come out stronger. By loosening the curls and refining the shape, his bone structure became much more visible,” says Bianca.
That approach is exactly what KURO stands for: hair as an extension of your personality. “For me, everything starts with a haircut that suits someone’s face shape and bone structure. Whether you’re a model or not. That’s what truly makes the difference.”
One person, many faces
After the haircut, Giel was captured in several styles. From clean and polished to effortless and bold. Each look revealed a different side of him, without ever feeling forced. Styling was done by Wolter Pot, known for his work for Vogue Netherlands, Numéro and L’Officiel. His sense of detail and balance gave each look exactly the right tone.
Photography was done by Gijs van de Veerdonk, whose work has previously appeared in Glamcult, Elle and Vogue Netherlands. His strength lies in capturing character and texture, without noise. And that’s exactly what this shoot reflects: honest images with a focus on form, presence and individuality.
More than a portfolio shoot
What started as a haircut turned into a visual exploration of identity, shape and freedom. It once again confirmed how important a good haircut is. Not as a styling trick, but as a foundation that works—both on camera and in everyday life.
