KURO SECURES TRIPLE NOMINATION FOR THE COIFFURE AWARD

KURO’S creative director Bianca van Zwieten has received a triple nomination for the Coiffure Award. She successfully secured a nomination in both the men and women category. For the latter she was also nominated for the Press Award.

The two submitted shoots of Bianca were selected from more than two thousand entries, under the watchful eye of a 13-member Dutch and a 6-member British jury. With the women’s collection, Bianca also managed to secure a nomination for the special Press Award category. For this award, a jury consisting of renowned beauty editors of consumer and professional magazines chooses their favourite series from all the entries.

Colour, shape and avantgardistic hair

For the women’s collection, Biance flew to Melbourne to work with leading photographer Andrew O’Toole. The Creative Director and co-founder of KURO wanted to show the brand’s DNA by means of an art shoot with an abundance of colour, shape and unwearable avantgardistic hair. Bianca drew inspiration from the work of various artists, including Yayoi Kusama and Rei Kawakubo and translated this into the different hairstyles.

Wearable punk and controversial choices

For the men's collection, Bianca chose the Cote d'Azur as the backdrop, with dancers of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo AN JaeYong and Luca Bergamaschi as two of the four models. Bianca went for a wearable punk theme but made contrarian choices. Think of a woman in a men's collection and a model with a peace sign on his head. "It became a collab between the models, the photographer and me. Something that can only happen if you have no rules beforehand." Bianca chose photographer Chris Philippo to bring her idea to life. The duo has already collaborated before, for the Mirror Mirror cover with model Kelly Piquet.

Previously, Biance also won a Coiffure Award. In 2022, an (international) jury awarded her with the first prize in the women’s category and in 2018 she was named Hairdresser of the Year, the most prestigious prize of the Coiffure Award.

About the Coiffure Award

Since 2022, De Coiffure Award has grown to become the Dutch award show for hairdressers. In this independent competition, the best hairdressers in the Netherlands compete for the Coiffure Award. Together, they create the Netherlands' most leading fashion images. All entries are judged by an independent, expert jury on the combination of hairstyle, make-up, styling, and photography. Every year, the event ends with a gala ceremony.

The 32nd edition of the gala will take place on Sunday evening 12 May in Studio21 in Hilversum. The event will be hosted by Dutch presenter Nikkie de Jager.
